IT WAS FIFTEEN MINUTES OF GUN BATTLE - EX CBN GOVERNOR PROF. CHARLES SOLUDO NARRATES HOW HE WAS ATTACKED

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, has said the gun duel between police officers and the gunmen who attacked him on Wednesday lasted for more than 15 minutes.

Recall that Eons Intelligence reported how the former CBN boss was attacked by unknown armed men at an interactive town hall meeting in Isuofia, Aguata LGA of Anambra State.

Three security aides attached to Prof Soludo were killed during the attack and the Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, was abducted in the process.

Reacting to the incident on Thursday night, the former Governor of CBN revealed he started hearing gunshots when he was about to conclude his speech and that he thought it was his security personnel that were shooting into the air when the gun duel began.

According to his narration, everyone was helpless and they scampered for their safety during the duration of the incident. He stated that the later found the remains of the deceased security operatives in a pool of their own blood.

He said; “Just as I was about to wrap up, I said, finally, for them to open up for comments, questions, and answers. Gunshot! At first, I thought maybe the policemen were shooting in the air, concurring with the kind of exuberance in the hall itself..

“Until I began to hear people screaming and all of that and everybody began to scamper for safety. Then, it took several minutes, more than ten, fifteen minutes of continuous gun battle going back and forth and stopping and starting again.

“By the time we all came back, we saw three bodies laying in the pool of their blood. They were the three policemen. May God grant their souls eternal rest.”

Prof. Soludo, who declared his intention to contest at the November gubernatorial election in the State in February, said that he would be shocked if it turns out tha the attack was politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command on Thursday arrested a suspect connected to the attack on the former CBN Governor.

As of Friday, multiple reports indicate that four more suspects have been arrested. The State's Commissioner of Police also said he has reinforced and improved the security apparatus in Soludo's residence and the community at large.
