SANWO-OLU PROMISES TO RELEASE ENDSARS PANEL REPORT, FINDINGS NOTWITHSTANDING

In what seems like a diversion from the Federal Government's position, the Lagos State Government has announced its plan to make public, the final report of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution on Police Brutality.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this in Lagos on Thursday, adding that under his watch, the recommendations of the panel will not be covered up, whether it favours the State or not.

Recall that the Federal Government, through the information minister, Lai Mohammed had labelled the alleged killings at the Lekki toll gate as "Phantom", despite the fact that the case is still being investigated.

"I am convinced that the panel report would be helpful in strengthening true reconciliation and help to prevent re-occurrence of violence in the State."

"We are currently facing the arduous task of rebuilding the State, one year after it was hit by a wave of arson attacks resulting from the EndSARS protests. Lagos recorded a huge loss in assets and resources, following the violence that trailed the protest, as public transportation infrastructure, court buildings, police stations, private properties and iconic assets were razed by arsonists on October 21, 2020", he said.

The Governor also stated that he has ordered the release of those arrested in yesyerday's memorial drive through protest at the Lekki tollgate, except those caught with dangerous weapons. This, he said is in the spirit of freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the immediate task before Lagosians now is to work synergise in a bid to rebuild Lagos as well as extend a hand of fellowship to the youths as stakeholders in the advancement of Lagos State.
