BUHARI NOMINATES PRESIDENT OF COURT APPEAL
President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the name of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem to the Senate as President of the Court of Appeal.
The President made this known on Monday, June 8 in a statement, via his verified Twitter handle.
"I have sent the nomination of Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Acting President, Court of Appeal, to the Senate for confirmation as President, Court of Appeal, in line with the recommendation of the National Judicial Council," the statement read.
Earlier, on Sunday, June 7, Garba Shehu, Buhari’s Spokesperson said that the appointment of Monica Dongban-Mensem as the President of the Court of Appeal was delayed because, relevant security agencies were yet to conclude her screening.
Justice Dongban-Mensem is the Acting President of the Court of Appeal.
He was sworn-in as the Acting President, Court of Appeal, on March 6, 2020, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad after the retirement of Zainab Bulkachuwa.
From 1990-1993, Justice Dongban-Mensem served as Deputy Chief Registrar, Superior Courts and Protocol Affairs, and was appointed Judge, High Court of Justice, Plateau Judiciary from 1993-1996.
He was transferred to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Judiciary in 1997, where he served until he was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2003.
