THOUSANDS OF MALIANS PROTEST AT BAMAKO, DEMANDS RESIGNATION OF PRESIDENT KEITA
Thousands of Malian citizens came together in Bamako, Mali's capital, to demand the resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
The 75-year old President is under immense pressure over failure to stop jihadist insurgency that started in northern Mali in 2012.
The Jihadist insurgency has led to the death of thousands of soldiers and civilians, whilst a huge chunk of Malians have fled their homes.
Corruption, political instability, and a declining economy have also increased the frustrations of citizens in the country.
This action follows a similar rally held on June 5th, organised by a newly formed coalition of opposition groups.
The coalition is channeling deep frustrations about the slow pace of progress in the country, and the unending bloodshed.
In recent days, demands had been thrown at President Keita to make several decisions like raising the salaries of public teachers.
Mamadou Diakite, a 42-year old teacher at Friday's protest, told reporters that Keita had to step down.
"We are here for the final victory, there is no negotiation possible," Diakhite said.

President Keita is serving his second term as President of Mali, a country of about 19 million people.
He was first elected President in 2013 and then began his second five-year term in 2018.
