6 Brigade Crushes Armed Militia in Taraba, Recovers Firearms and Motorcycles

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have neutralised four armed militia members and recovered a cache of weapons during a swift operation to quell renewed violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The deployment followed credible intelligence indicating a resurgence of violent clashes stemming from a long-standing land dispute between the Shomo and Wurkun communities. The conflict, which escalated in recent days, resulted in the burning of houses and destruction of property, prompting the military to intervene to prevent further bloodshed.

According to the Army, troops came under attack from armed groups emerging from the Fadama axis upon arrival in the area. A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, during which soldiers neutralised four militia members.

A subsequent sweep of the area led to the recovery of:

- Three dane guns

- One fabricated AK-47 rifle

- Twenty-five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

- Two motorcycles

In a development that highlights the complexity of the crisis, one personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) was found operating alongside the militia group. He was arrested and is currently undergoing investigation and profiling to determine his role.

The Commander, 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, **Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa**, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to clearing criminal elements from Taraba State and maintaining operational pressure across all assigned areas.

General Uwa assured residents of Karim Lamido and neighbouring communities of the Army’s unwavering resolve to restore peace and stability. He urged locals to support ongoing operations by providing credible and timely information to security agencies.

The Nigerian Army appealed to residents to remain calm as normalcy gradually returns. It also encouraged the public to report suspicious activities as operations under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta continue across the region.
