Troops Rescue 17 Kidnapped Passengers in Kogi State
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, in collaboration with Hybrid Forces and local vigilantes, have rescued 17 kidnapped victims in Kogi State. The rescued persons include 13 adults and four children.
The incident occurred on September 10, 2025, when troops at Patrol Base Apata received intelligence about a kidnapping at Opamaru village along the Obajana–Lokoja Road. The victims, who were travelling in a 17-seater bus from Osun State to Abuja, were ambushed by armed criminals.
Responding swiftly, the patrol team, reinforced by the Brigade Quick Response Group (QRG), mobilised to the scene where they found the abandoned bus. Using field tracking techniques, the troops followed the kidnappers’ trail to Wuro village in Adavi Local Government Area, where they engaged the criminals.
Outmatched by the troops’ superior firepower, the kidnappers fled into the bush with gunshot injuries, abandoning all 17 hostages. The victims were safely evacuated to the 12 Brigade Medical Centre for first aid and stabilisation.
The Nigerian Army assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to provide timely information that could aid ongoing operations against criminal elements.
