BREAKING: BUHARI SHUNS REPS SUMMON AS PLENARY COMMENCES ON THURSDAY
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, December 10, failed to honour the invitation by members of the House of Representatives to address them on rising insecurity in the country as plenary commenced in his absence.
The House of Representatives had on Tuesday, December 1, summoned the President over the recent killing of about 43 rice farmers by Boko Haram Insurgents in Zabarmari community in Borno State.
In response to this, the President’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie on Monday, December 7, announced that Buhari will address a joint session of the National Assembly.

However, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), on Wednesday, December 9, said the national assembly has no constitutional power to summon President Muhammadu Buhari.
Malami said it was outside the constitutional powers of the national assembly to summon the president over his “operational use of the armed forces”.
Malami added that the decision to appear before the national assembly should be at the president’s discretion and not subject to summons by the lawmakers.
Meanwhile, at the commencement of the plenary on Thursday, December 10, there was no sight of President Buhari.

A lawmaker from Rivers State, Solomon Bob raised a point of order over the President’s refusal to honour the invitation of the house. He asked the Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to update the House on the subject matter.
The Speaker responded by saying the House will wait for official communication from the president.
