COVID 19 SECOND WAVE: SCHOOLS IN KADUNA TO REMAIN CLOSED

The Kaduna State government has ordered schools to remain closed until further notice citing covid 19 concerns. 


The state Ministry of Education issued the statement even as schools across the federation reopened Monday, January 18. 

 

“We know that the federal government stated that schools can resume on Monday the 18 of January 2021 following the closure of schools last year due to the second wave of COVID- 19 but the situation is different in Kaduna State…

“We want to make it categorically clear that, Kaduna State government is yet to fix a date for resumption to schools,” a statement signed by State Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary, Mrs Phoebe Sukai Yayi stated. 


However, students of the National Open University of Nigeria and Kaduna Polytechnic can resume so as to write semester examinations only, the State Ministry of Education added. 


Mrs Yayi stated that Kaduna State has recorded an increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases adding that the government is still monitoring the situation and would make pronouncement regarding resumption in due course.

Recall the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Services on Saturday urged the federal government to postpone Monday's school resumption by three months citing rising Covid 19 cases.

The Nigerian Governors Forum expressed also expressed alarm by the intensity of the second wave of the Coronavirus in the country and "Nigeria's tardy commencement of inoculation".


Nigeria recorded 1444 new COVID 19 cases on Sunday, January 18 totalling the number of confirmed COVID 19 cases in the country to 110,387 with 1,435 deaths.
