LOKOJA EXPLOSION: GOVERNMENT DECLARES TWO-DAY MOURNING

Following the tanker explosion which claimed 23 lives on Wednesday, September 23, in Lokoja, Kogi State, the State Government has declared a two-day mourning in honour of the victims.


Kingsley Fanwo, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, made the announcement in a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, 2020.


“The people are the State. Therefore, the primary responsibility of the Government is to ensure the safety and well-being of the Kogi people.


“As a result of the importance placed on the lives of our people, the Government has declared a two-day state mourning to honor the departed souls.


“In this time of grief, we urge the people to be deep in sober reflection and stand together for one another to pull out of the agonizing loss,” the statement reads.

The Government, who said investigations have commenced to unravel the cause of the incident, urged all road users to act responsibly in order to prevent a future occurrence.


Eons Intelligence earlier reported that President Buhari, on Wednesday, September 23, urged all security officials to enforce precautionary and safety standards that would stop the unusual rise in truck accidents in Nigeria


Reacting to the demise of the 23 souls who lost their lives from the inferno, the President said their death "represents another disturbing and saddening incident in the litany of tragedies" that have befallen the country.
