Troops Recover Arms Cache in Intelligence-Led Operation in Taraba

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE have recorded a significant operational success with the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition during an intelligence-driven raid in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation, carried out on January 4, 2026, followed actionable intelligence on the movement of an associate linked to a notorious criminal kingpin, John Ngata. Acting on the information, troops mounted a snap roadblock along a suspected route and intercepted the suspect at Zaki-Biam without resistance.

Preliminary interrogation led to the discovery of a concealed armoury belonging to the criminal network at Amadu village in Takum LGA. A follow-up operation at the location resulted in the recovery of 13 AK-47 rifles, 39 AK-47 magazines, 690 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and four hand grenades. The armoury was subsequently destroyed to prevent further use, after which the troops withdrew safely.

The Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and effective use of intelligence, noting that the operation successfully disrupted a criminal supply chain.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation WHIRL STROKE to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies. Major General Gara also acknowledged the support of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, and members of the public in the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across the area of responsibility.
