COURT GRANTS BAIL TO CHINESE NATIONALS ACCUSED OF OFFERING EFCC N100M BRIBE
A Sokoto High Court on Thursday, May 21, has granted bail to two Chinese officials accused of offering N100 million bribe to an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The presiding judge, Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawu, said the respondents did not successfully dislodge the presumption of innocence of the accused.
The two accused Chinese men were granted bail in the sum of N5 million each with two surety in like sum. One of which must be resident in Sokoto and have a landed property that has a Certificate of Occupancy.
The judge also ordered the suspects to submit their international passports with the Chief Registrar of the court.
The EFCC arrested the suspects for allegedly offering a 100million naira bribe to Abdulahi Lawal, the head of the Sokoto Zonal Office.
The two Chinese who bear the names, Meng Wei Kun and Xu Kuoi are the staff of China Zhounghao Nigeria Limited, a construction company.
According to Lawal, the suspects offered him the bribe to compromise an ongoing investigation against their company.
