CONTROVERSIES SURROUND THE KILLING OF BENUE NOTORIOUS MILITIA LEADER GANA

The Nigeria Army on Tuesday killed Notorious militia leader, Terwase Akwaza also known as Gana. 


Gana was killed in a firefight with military personnel on Tuesday, September 8, the Nigeria military told.

However, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom allege that soldiers snatched Gana from a government convoy at Maseje in Gboko local government area while he and other repentant youths were on their way to Makurdi where they were to be given amnesty by the State Security Council.


Governor Ortom told journalists that out of 172 repented militia youths who had agreed to give peace a chance and surrender their arms, only 42 made it to Makurdi following Gana’s killing. 

Gana was offered amnesty by the Benue State Government In 2015 but resumed his criminal activities.

In 2017, the Benue State Government placed a N10 million naira bounty on him for offences ranging from killing, kidnapping, and arson.
