Police-Led Joint Team Rescues Kidnapped Nigerian During Patrol in Anambra

A police-led joint security team in Anambra State has rescued a Nigerian citizen who was abducted earlier this month, following a routine visibility patrol in Orumba South Local Government Area.

The rescue was carried out in the early hours of January 15, 2026, by operatives attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Aguata, while on patrol around the Isulo axis. The victim was found after escaping from his captors and was subsequently secured by the joint security operatives.

According to information provided by the police, the victim is a Nigerian national from Obinagu–Isikweachi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State and is currently based in South Africa. He was reportedly abducted on the evening of January 1, 2026, from his hometown by a six-man armed gang who allegedly wore face masks during the operation.

The victim disclosed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N40 million from his wife and family members. He later managed to escape from the kidnappers’ hideout, which led to his rescue during the patrol.

After his rescue, the victim was debriefed and reunited with his family. Security operatives are now acting on intelligence obtained from him to locate the kidnappers’ den and apprehend those responsible.

The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to proactive policing and sustained security operations across the state, assuring residents that further updates will be communicated as investigations continue.
