Sambisa Blow: Troops Kill Boko Haram’s No. 2, 10 Others in Midnight Offensive

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have eliminated a top Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Abu Khalid, alongside 10 other terrorists during a decisive night operation in Borno State.

Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, was neutralised late at night during a coordinated offensive by troops of Sector 1, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force under Operation Desert Sanity. The encounter occurred around 11:00 p.m. in the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area.

The operation came barely 24 hours after troops killed another high-profile Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle, marking a sustained offensive against terrorist leadership structures in the North-East.

Military sources described Abu Khalid as a key figure responsible for coordinating terrorist operations and logistics within the Sambisa axis. Following the engagement, troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, magazines, several bicycles, assorted logistics and food supplies, as well as large quantities of medical consumables.

No casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation. Clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle and other known Boko Haram and ISWAP hideouts in the region.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations until all terrorist elements are neutralised and lasting peace and economic stability are restored in the North-East. The Military High Command also commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience and sacrifices, urging them to maintain the current operational momentum.
