Sokoto State on High Alert As Dangerous Criminal Group "LAKURAWA" Surfaces
The Sokoto State Government has raised concerns about the emergence of a new faith-driven criminal group known as "LAKURAWA." This group reportedly operates in five local government areas across the state and is said to be armed with dangerous weapons.
Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed expressed these concerns while addressing participants from Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, who are currently on a study tour in the state. He noted that this development comes at a time when the state is intensifying efforts to tackle banditry and other forms of crime.
According to Mohammed, the state government, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, is working tirelessly to counter the threats posed by the LAKURAWA group. He voiced optimism that the insights from the National Defence College study tour would shed light on this new security challenge and help in formulating effective measures to ensure peace and the safety of residents.
Air Vice Marshal Titus Zuwahu Dauda, leader of the National Defence College delegation, highlighted the college's role as Nigeria’s top military education institution since its establishment in 1992. He added that the college has graduated 2,982 participants, including officers from African and Asian countries, preparing them for strategic leadership roles in the military, police, and various security agencies.
The statement from the deputy governor's office, signed by Director of Press Garba Mohammed, noted that the college remains dedicated to training officers for high-level security responsibilities in response to evolving security challenges.
