Terror Plot Foiled as Troops Arrest Two Suspected Terrorists in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have foiled a coordinated terror plot and apprehended two suspected terrorists during separate intelligence-led operations in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Acting on credible intelligence, soldiers stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari arrested 45-year-old Felix Myina, a native of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State. Preliminary investigations identified him as a senior operative of a notorious kidnapping and banditry syndicate loyal to a wanted criminal kingpin known as Mcianan, alias “Yellow.” The syndicate has been linked to numerous attacks on motorists and residents along the Jootar–Wukari route. A Tecno mobile phone was recovered from Myina at the time of arrest.
In a separate but related incident, troops also arrested a 26-year-old suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), identified as Abubakar Yusuf, a native of Borno State currently residing in Gassol LGA. He was intercepted while allegedly performing suspicious rituals near the Aku-Uka Palace Junction—an area previously flagged as a potential ISWAP target. Security sources say Yusuf was attempting to "spiritually bind" the town to facilitate an attack.
Items recovered from him include:
One dead chicken
Nine rotten, unhatched eggs
One animal horn
A bottle containing powdered substance
Pieces of fresh meat
Both suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift response and commended residents for reporting suspicious activity. He urged the public to remain vigilant and to continue supporting security forces with timely intelligence.
“The Brigade remains fully committed to its mission of safeguarding lives and restoring peace and stability throughout Taraba State,” Gen. Uwa stated.
