TWO POLICEMEN KILLED BY UNKNOWN GUNMEN IN UGANDA COMMUNITY

Unknown gunmen have killed two policemen, CPL Alfred Oketch and PC Moses Kigongo, in Mityana district, Uganda.

This incident comes one week after a policeman was shot dead in Soroti district by unknown gunmen.

On November 30, Sgt. Gideon Euria was ambushed and gunned down at Maroon quarters while proceeding for his duties at the residence of Justice Alex Makayi Ajiji of the Gulu High Court.

The deceased police officers were killed around 4pm on Monday December 6 after they responded to a distress call at Sebobo, Sekanyonyi Sub County in Busunju.

Sources say the assailants killed one of the officers using a bladed weapon and then used the deceased’s gun to shoot and kill the second officer.

According to ASP Rachale Kawala, the Police PRO in Wamala region, security operatives have commenced an investigation into the attack.

She said; “The officers were responding to an alleged complaint by two victims who claimed they had been robbed of proceeds from their tomato business. One of them identified himself as Kananya Sulaiman of Nansana. They further alleged that the public had arrested one whom they were threatening to lynch to death.

“They disembarked from their motorcycles and were led towards Happy Nursery School, where the alleged victims together with others, ganged up and attacked the officers.”

‘’In the resultant melee, the assailants shot twice on the head, Cpl Okech before grabbing his gun and later hacked Constable Kigongo on the neck and head, killing him constantly.

“We pledge to do everything within our means, to ensure the right suspects are identified and brought to book. The motive of the suspects has not been determined. We call upon anyone with information about the senseless attacks of officers on lawful duty, to avail it to Mityana police on 0714667834.”
