PDP Rejects Ondo Governorship Election Results, Alleges Electoral Fraud
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the November 16, 2024, Ondo State governorship election, which declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.
In a statement issued on Sunday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba described the election as a severe affront to democratic principles, alleging widespread irregularities orchestrated by the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The election fell woefully short of the expectations and requirements for a free, fair, and credible process,” Ologunagba said. “It showcased blatant electoral malpractice, including rampant vote buying, monetization, and deceit, all designed to suppress the genuine will of the people.”
The PDP further accused the APC of weaponizing poverty to manipulate voters, describing the ruling party’s actions as a gross abuse of power.
“This devious practice was pervasive because the APC has impoverished Nigerians to such an extent that it uses poverty as a tool of mass subjugation to manipulate elections,” the statement read.
The PDP called on Nigerians and the international community to condemn and take decisive action against the alleged electoral malpractices.
“This reprehensible act by the APC undermines the core tenets of democracy. Serious measures must be taken to address such practices if Nigeria’s democracy is to endure,” Ologunagba added.
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) announced plans to conduct a detailed review of the election process and its outcome, promising to take necessary steps to defend democracy in Nigeria.
