(VIDEO) VILLAGERS IN CONGO INVADE A MOUNTAIN OF GOLD, GOVERNMENT SENDS POLICE TO SECURE THE AREA

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has deployed security operatives to the mountain where hundreds of villagers were seen mining Gold in a viral video. 


Viral videos captured hundreds of villagers searching for gold in Birava village located 35 km from the north of Bukavu in the Capital city of South -Kivu province. 


Eons Intelligence gathered that the government sent police to the area to restore law and order as well as to retrieve the gold some of the villagers were able to mine. 


Although the video went viral on Tuesday, the incident occurred on Saturday and the mountain is located within a registered mining area, hence the villagers' invasion of the place is considered illegal.

Gold is one of  DR Congo's biggest natural resources, however, it has also generated a lot of conflict as factions fight for greater control.
