2023 PRESIDENCY: OSINBAJO NOTIFIES PRESIDENT BUHARI OF INTENTION TO CONTEST ELECTION

Vice President Oluyemi Osinbajo has thrown his hat into the 2023 Presidential ring by seeking the approval and blessing of his boss, President Mohammadu Buhari.

Information gathered from People's Gazzete to this effect say three administrative officials, who are familiar with the development confirmed the news. It was reported that Mr Osinbajo’s deopped the hint when he met with Mr Buhari on New Year Day.

“The Vice-President did not want to go into the election year by hiding a plan which the president had probably already known about", a national security aide told The Gazette on Monday night, under anonymity because the parley was not approved for public consumption.

“He knew that an immediate endorsement of the president, on the other hand, may not be so easy to come by", the source allegedly stated.

Recall that posters bearing the portrait of the Vice President, with the inscription: ‘Osinbajo for All 2023’ boldly written on them were seen displayed at strategic locations in Ibadan and Abuja in November, 2021.

The posters were conspicously displayed at Iwo road, Mokola, Dugbe and University of Ibadan/Bodija Junction as well as other places in the ancient city or brown roofs.

The VP has been largely touted as being the most qualified candidate from the ruling party to succeed his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is billed to leave office in 2023.

Although the VP is yet to publicly declare his intention to join the presidential race, some stakeholders say the VP is a reserved and an ungarrulous person who may want to first cross his tee's and dot his i's before coming out publicly, especially due to the intention of his former boss and party bigwig, Senator Bola Tinubu to run for the same office.

Meanwhile, a group, Osinbajo For All Volunteer Group, had a couple of months ago, via a statement, said they were mobilizing Nigerians for the candidature of the VP for the Presidenncy because of his qualities and experience.

National Co-ordinator of the group, Peter Ogundeji, had said then that the group was behind the posters in Ibadan and other places. He said Osinbajo did not ask the group to campaign for him but its members were rooting for his possible emergence because they were convinced about the qualities and pedigree of the VP.

Efforts to get response on the latest moves from the VP's camp was not forthcoming at the time of filing this report.

Details later.
