Anambra Police React to Viral Video Alleging Subversion of Justice
The Anambra State Police Command has issued a formal statement in response to a viral video featuring a man allegedly on a hospital bed, accusing the Police Command, Nigeria Customs Service, and prominent individuals—including Prince Arthur Eze of Ukpo and the traditional ruler of Ukwulu—of obstructing justice.
In a press release on Thursday, the Command described the video as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of both the police and respected stakeholders in the state. It warned that legal action could be taken under relevant cybercrime laws against those behind the video.
“The Command views the clip as a ploy to gain public sympathy and divert attention from the actual case under investigation,” the statement read. It further emphasized that the Command had acted swiftly when the incident occurred—arresting two suspects, recovering firearms, and preventing the crisis from escalating—an effort acknowledged by the alleged victim in the video.
Clarifying its role, the Command explained that it was not influenced by any individuals or groups. It noted that the handover of suspects to the Nigeria Customs Service was in accordance with standard inter-agency protocols for internal disciplinary processes when personnel from other agencies are involved.
Despite this, the police affirmed that full justice would be pursued. “The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served, regardless of agency affiliation,” the statement added.
Condemning the video, the Command expressed concern about attempts to incite public distrust in security agencies and urged the public to exercise caution when engaging with content on social media.
“We advise the public, especially Ndi Anambra, to reject baseless allegations and resist any effort by unscrupulous elements to malign the image of the police or other security bodies,” the statement concluded.
