Ankara's TUSAS Facility Hit by Terrorist Attack; Casualties Reported
On the afternoon of October 23, the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) in Ankara was targeted in a terrorist attack, resulting in casualties, according to Turkish officials.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed the incident via the X messaging platform, stating that there were fatalities and injuries, although he did not disclose specific numbers. “A terrorist attack was carried out against the TUSAS facilities,” Yerlikaya wrote, adding, “Unfortunately, we have martyrs and injured people.”
Witnesses reported hearing an explosion followed by gunfire at the facility, located in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara. In response, Turkish security forces are currently engaged in operations to neutralize the assailants.
Emergency services, including security personnel, firefighters, and paramedics, have been dispatched to the scene. Preliminary, unverified reports suggest that the incident may involve a suicide attack.
The identity of the perpetrators remains unknown, and Turkey’s official anti-disinformation agency has urged the public to rely on official statements to avoid the spread of misinformation.
In light of the attack, employees of government institutions nationwide have been evacuated due to concerns of potential further threats. An investigation into the attack has been launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with a chief prosecutor and eight additional prosecutors assigned to the case.
