BOKO HARAM/ISWAP TARGETS HUMANITARIAN NGOS IN RECENT ARTICLE
Boko Haram/ISWAP on Friday, June 18, released an article on its Islamic State weekly magazine, An-Naba’ accusing humanitarian NGOs of exploiting the poverty conditions in the north to imbibe anti-Islamic values into IDPs and recruit them as spies that work for the military.
The terrorists claimed that these were one of the reasons they attacked Monguno on June 13. The army repelled that attack, and at least 41 terrorists were killed.
There are indications that Boko Haram/ISWAP criminals are planning to attack Humanitarian organizations providing help to IDPs.
This week, villagers and residents in Gubio Local Government Area and its environs fled from their homes and IDP camps because of leaflets purportedly from Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters warning them to stay away from places where the military has a presence.
Sources say at least 1 copy of the warning letter was found within the vicinity of the humanitarian base camps where aid workers reside.

In the warning letter written in the Hausa Language, Boko Haram/ISWAP claimed that their fight is against polytheists, Christian westerners, nonbelievers, and anyone who is fighting against Islam.
Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have targeted humanitarian workers in the past. In 2018, Boko Haram terrorists killed aid workers kidnapped during an attack on a military facility.
According to the UN’s humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, 12 aid workers were killed in 2019.
