COURT REMANDS TWO MINORS OVER GANG RAPE IN RIVERS
A Magistrate Court domiciled in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State has remanded two Secondary School students in custody for allegedly gang raping a female student.
The two Students, Chukwudi Daniel and Confidence Gbarabe, both 14-year-olds are students of Okporo Secondary School, Port- Hardcourt, Rivers State.
They were arraigned in court on Thursday for charges bordering on defilement in suit number PMC/1732c/202. They allegedly committed the offence in their school premises on October 27, 2021.
The two accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, counsel to the two accused students, Barrister Chinedu Ndah, applied for their bail, verbally. Chief Magistrate of the Court, Rita Oguguo instructed that the two accused students be kept in an un-named remand home in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
She adjourned the next hearing to December 7, 2021 for a ruling on the bail application. She however enjoined parents and guardians to be more active and intentional in the lives of their young ones, while stating that cases of sexual abuse is regrettably on the increase.
However, a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyer, Emi George, told newsmen outside the courtroom that the organisation will follow the case to a logical conclusion and ensure that justice is timely and appropriately served.
