Enugu Police Nab Man for Machete Attack on Wife Over Cheating Allegations
Enugu State Police Command operatives attached to the Okpuje Division have arrested a 33-year-old man, Sunday Echege, for allegedly severing his wife’s left wrist over claims of infidelity. The incident occurred on January 26, 2025, at Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in the Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka Local Government Area.
According to the police, the arrest was facilitated with the support of vigilant community members, and the machete used in the attack was recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime, citing suspicions of his wife’s extramarital affairs as his motive.
The Enugu Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the suspect faces prosecution. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
CP Uzuegbu condemned the violent act and called on couples to resolve disputes through dialogue, understanding, and lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
