A fire outbreak at the Muna garage Internally Displaced Persons camp in Maiduguri, Borno State has killed two persons and destroyed 1613 households.
The tragedy occurred on the Eve of Eid-El-Fitr, according to Yabawa Kolo, the Chairperson of the Borno State Emergency Agency.
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum who visited the camp, said the continuous fire outbreaks in makeshift camps underscores why they need to be shut down across the state.
According to the Governor, the federal government has approved the construction of ten thousand housing units across the state with the affected persons in mind.
There has been a series of reports of fire outbreaks in IDP camps in the first quarter of the year.
At least 14 IDPs lost their lives in a fire outbreak at Nganzai local government last month.
