IGP DEPLOYS AIG, 5 AIGs, 14 CPs, 93 SOs TO ANAMBRA AHEAD OF ELECTIONS

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has approved major deployments to Anambra State in a major shake up of the security structure ahead of the 6th November, 2021 elections. 


These include the deployment of selected Commanders from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above to the State. 


Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Joseph Egbunike has been deployed to Anambra State as the "Co-ordinator of the security component for the Elections."


A statement from the Police hierarchy says he is to supervise the "Implementation of the Operation Order evolved from the Election Security Threat Assessment, to ensure a peaceful environment devoid of violence and conducive enough to guarantee that law abiding citizens freely perform their civic responsibilities without molestation or intimidation." 


He will be deputised by the DIG in-charge of Operations, Acting DIG, Zaki Ahmed. Five Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) forteen Commissioners of Police (CPs), thirty-one Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and forty-eight Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) have also been deployed to Anambra in this exercise. 


The Officers are said to be saddled with the responsibility of co-ordianting human and material resources in the three Senatorial Districts, twenty-one Local Government Areas and the 5720 polling units in the State, during the forthcoming elections. 


The IGP assures all stakeholders of its commitment to the peaceful conducts of the polls, while calling on all to go about their legitimate activities without apprehension. 


He said the Nigerian Police promises a level playing ground and protection for all electorates, candidates, parties, the electoral umpire, (INEC) and all stakeholders before, during and after the polls in Anambra State. He also called on all to be out en masse and exercise their franchise.
