ILLEGAL MINING: 19 KIDNAPPED, 30 KILLED IN ABUJA
About nineteen individuals were abducted in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on 6th September 2023.
Just prior to this incident, around 30 individuals lost their lives in a landslide attributed to illegal mining activities in the Kuje area council.
These troubling events were brought to light during a first-time meeting between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the chairpersons of the six area councils on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Expressing his frustration with these developments, the minister announced his intention to summon the FCT Director of the Department of State Services and the Commissioner of Police to provide detailed briefings on the kidnapping and to expedite rescue efforts.
Meanwhile, Wike urged the council leaders to establish surveillance task forces in their respective areas to monitor mining activities and disclosed his plan to meet with the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, to eradicate illegal mining in the FCT.
