Jailbreak in Kogi: Inmates Escape as Authorities Launch Investigation

A jailbreak in Kogi State has led to the escape of several inmates, prompting heightened security measures and an ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the development as “unfortunate” and assured the public that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is taking decisive steps to prevent a recurrence.

According to Channels TV, Fanwo confirmed that law enforcement officers have already re-arrested one of the escapees, while efforts are underway to track down the others.

“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns. This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system,” Channels TV quoted Fanwo as saying.

Governor Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to strengthen prison security and ensure such breaches do not happen again.

The government has also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals in their communities. "Anyone found sheltering an escaped inmate will face legal consequences," Fanwo warned.

Despite the incident, authorities have reassured the public that there is no cause for panic, emphasizing that security agencies are fully committed to safeguarding lives and property.
