Kogi State Shuts Markets and Motor Parks Amid Security Operations
The Kogi State Government has issued a directive for the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks in parts of Kogi West Senatorial District to support ongoing security operations aimed at eradicating terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups.
The announcement, made on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, was in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and various security agencies.
The closures are meant to disrupt the logistics and movement of goods, preventing criminal elements and their informants from accessing essential supplies during the operations.
Affected areas span across seven local government areas, including Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi, Mopamuro, and Ijumu. Specific locations include Oshokoshoko Market and Motor Park in Lokoja, Ike Bunu, Aba Marian, and several other towns across the region. Markets such as the Rice Market in Kogi LGA and Okro Market at Opanda are also impacted.
The state government reassured that these closures are temporary and will be lifted as soon as the security operations are successfully concluded.
Recall that, as reported by EONS Intelligence on February 3, the Kogi State Government also announced the temporary closure of schools across the state, citing security concerns based on credible intelligence to safeguard pupils, teachers, and staff.
