LAGOS STATE POLICE COMMAND DISMISSES 10 OFFICERS AND DEMOTES 18 OTHERS FOR MISCONDUCT
The Lagos state police command has dismissed 10 police operatives and demoted 18 others for several cases of misconduct.
The affected security personnel were penalized for offences which include murder, corrupt practices, negligence and excessive use of power.
In a statement by Muyiwa Adejobi, the State's police PRO, the offences were committed between October 2019 and October 2020.
Odumosu said; “In its bid to promote discipline and core values of policing in Lagos State, the Police Command has tried eighty one (81) personnel for various criminal and disciplinary offences that were committed between October 2019 and October 2020, ranging from murder, discreditable conducts, excessive use of power, corrupt practices and negligence.

“The command has dismissed and prosecuted seven (7), while ten (10) personnel were dismissed. In addition, eighteen (18) of the men were reduced in ranks and twenty-nine (29) were awarded #10 naira major entries and warning letters accordingly. Others were awarded extra fatigue, while sixteen (16) of the men were discharged and acquitted for want of evidence.
“According to the provisions of the Police Act and Regulations, punishments are awarded according to the magnitude of offences committed by police personnel.”
Hakeem Odumosu, commissioner of police in Lagos, noted that the decision to dismiss and demote the officers are part of efforts to change the public’s perception about the force.
The police boss urged residents of Lagos to report any misconduct of police personnel to appropriate authorities.
