NIGER SOLDIERS DECLARE COUP ON NATIONAL TV

A group of soldiers led by one Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane on 26th July 2023 announced the removal of Niger President, Mohamed Bazoum from power on the nation's national television following a coup d'etat from the soldiers.


Colonel-Major Amadou Abdramane and other 9 flanked soldiers televised the statement in a video communique that read below:


“We have decided to put an end to the regime that you know due to the deteriorating security situation in the country and poor economic and social governance.”


"All institutions in the country have been suspended, and Land and air borders are closed until the situation has stabilised, and a curfew has been imposed until further notice from 2200hrs to 0500hrs."


"All external partners are asked not to interfere,"


The coup incident in Niger marks the seventh military takeover in the West and Central African region since 2020.


Meanwhile, the head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, said his delegate from Benin Republic, President Patrice Talon will head to Naimey for a peace-restoring meditation.
