The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has made significant strides in combating cybercrime, with the National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) achieving remarkable success in 2024. The unit has recovered a staggering N8,821,001,881.80 (Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty-One Million, One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-One Naira, Eighty Kobo), 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 (Eighty-Four Thousand Dollars), which have been returned to victims of cybercrime.

In addition to the financial recovery, the NPF-NCCC has also made notable progress in disrupting cybercriminal operations. Over 751 individuals have been arrested and prosecuted for their involvement in cybercrime, while the unit seized 685 devices used in illegal activities. These included 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops and computers, 46 routers, 4 servers, 1 drone, and 4 Starlink devices. The police also confiscated 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles connected to cybercrime operations.

For its outstanding efforts, the NPF-NCCC has been recognized as the Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa for 2024. The award, presented by the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore, places the Nigerian unit at the forefront of cybercrime fighting in Africa, among 54 participating nations.

Further advancing its commitment to tackling cybercrime, the NPF-NCCC recently apprehended four suspects—Douglass Victor, Egbo Efe Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody—for various cyber-related offences.
