MESSI SHINES AS BARCELONA OUTCLASS MALLORCA
Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, was in fine form as Barcelona defeated Real Mallorca in a five-star performance in the La Liga on Saturday.
The Argentine playmaker was a constant thorn in the flesh for the Mallorca defenders and helped the Catalan giants go five points clear on the La Liga table.
The six-time Ballon d' or winner had been dealing with a severe thigh injury in recent weeks and trained with the first team last Monday, but it did not look rusty in his first 90 minutes.
Barcelona got off to a fast start and grabbed the early goal just two minutes in when Jordi Alba found the head of Arturo Vidal in the box.
The five-time European champions led 2nil at the break after Messi set up Martin Braithwaite for his first goal for the football club. Messi also assisted Alba for his goal in the 79th minute.
With Barcelona home and dry, Messi got this goal in the 93rd minute with his weaker foot to complete the decimation of Mallorca.
Barca had the lion share of possession and scored four of the six shots it attempted.
Messi's 93rd-minute goal makes him the first player to score 20 goals in 12 straight La Liga seasons.
Mallorca remains in the relegation zone and is desperately in need of survival.
The club returns to action on Tuesday against Leganes.
