SUEZ CANAL BLOCKAGE: EGYPT SEIZE MV EVER GIVEN, DEMAND $900 MILLION COMPENSATION
Egyptian authorities have seized MV Ever Given, the mega ship which blocked the Suez Canal and nearly crippled world trade for about a week.
Backed by an Egyptian court order, the owners of there 200,000-tonne mega ship have been mandated to pay $900,000 compensation, authorities said on Tuesday.
Recall Eons Intelligence reported in March that the MV Ever Given got stuck for 6 days at a crucial global trade artery, causing a tail long traffic at sea.
Estimates by a maritime data company Lloyd’s List, projected that the blockage held up an estimated $9.6 billion-worth of cargo between Asia and Europe each day it was stuck.
The Canal authority stated that Egypt lost between $12 and $15 million in revenues each day the waterway was closed.
