US PRESIDENT-ELECT, JOE BIDEN RECEIVES FIRST DOSE OF PFIZER COVID-19 VACCINE ON NATIONAL TV
US President-elect, Joe Biden, has received his first dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.
Recall that on November 9, Pfizer said it's vaccine was 90% effective against the Coronavirus disease, and a nurse from New York became the first recipient of the jab in the US on December 14.
"I'm doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared when it's available to take the vaccine. There's nothing to worry about," Biden said from Newark, Delaware, where he got the jab live on TV.
Vice-President-elect, Kamala Harris, and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, are expected to receive their first shots next week.
He applauded the Donald Trump administration for launching the country's vaccine programme.
Biden joins a host of political leaders who have received the jab including Vice-President Mike Pence, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the US has recorded more than 18 million cases and 319,000 deaths.
