OPERATION FOREST SANITY III: CDS DEPLOYS ELITE BRIGADE TO NEUTRALIZE LAKURAWAS SECT

In a decisive move to eradicate the Lakurawas sect in Sokoto and Kebbi States, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has deployed a Special Operations Brigade to the region. This deployment is part of efforts to consolidate the successes recorded under Operation FOREST SANITY III (CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT).

Addressing the troops on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, outlined the mission objectives. Speaking today, December 13, 2024, Brigadier General Ajose urged the troops to ensure the complete neutralization of the Lakurawas sect while adhering to rules of engagement and protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.

He expressed confidence in their capabilities, reminding them of their specialized training and selection for this critical mission. "Nigerians are counting on your professionalism and resolve to eliminate this threat," he stated.

The deployment follows a series of successful precursor operations conducted by 8 Division troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA. These operations targeted forested areas and hideouts across several locations, including Rumji Dutse, East of Sarma, Tsauna and Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Tsauna and Magara Forest, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kadidda, Kolo, and Dancha Villages in Illela, Tangaza, and Binji Local Government Areas.

During these operations, troops destroyed 22 camps, neutralized several sect members, and recovered four rifles, 409 rounds of PKT 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 94 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The deployment of the Special Operations Brigade is expected to intensify pressure on the sect, restore peace, and enhance security in affected communities and the North West region at large.
