
Police Raid Criminal Hotspots in Abuja, Arrest 17 Over Drug and Theft Crimes
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended 17 suspected drug dealers and a notorious car thief in separate operations across Abuja.
In a coordinated crackdown, operatives from the Anti-Narcotic Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and Pegi Divisions raided criminal hideouts, abandoned buildings, and known drug hotspots. The operation led to the arrest of 17 suspects and the recovery of suspected Indian hemp, illicit substances, 24 lighters, and scissors. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, with those found culpable set to face prosecution.
Meanwhile, police arrested 36-year-old Ibrahim Suleiman, a suspected car thief from Falele Village, Kogi State. He was caught attempting to steal a Toyota Sienna near Wuse Zone 3 Mosque during Juma’at prayers. A mob attacked him, but police intervened and took him into custody.
Investigations revealed Suleiman had a history of car theft and was previously arrested for a robbery at First Bank, Abaji, in June 2024. Further searches led to the recovery of seven master keys, two mobile phones, and a stolen Peugeot 406 with registration number KAB 480 AA. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
Additionally, Jabi Division operatives arrested 36-year-old Sadiq Abubakar Walama of Fafu Estate, Idu Yard, for possessing an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition. Security sources reported that Walama was acting suspiciously before his arrest. A search uncovered a military form with his passport photograph. He is currently undergoing further interrogation.
