MAVD Slams President Tinubu's Handling of Protester Detainees
The Moshood Abiola Vanguard for Democracy (MAVD) has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu's administration for its handling of the recent detention of minors during a peaceful protest, labeling it a "comical show" that has left many Nigerians bewildered.
Comrade Ibrahim Sulaimon Tobiloba, speaking for MAVD, criticized the government's actions, accusing it of ignoring serious human rights violations. He questioned how the government could celebrate after such disgraceful conduct, emphasizing that instead of celebrating, they should apologize to Nigerians, especially the traumatized children .
Tobiloba further criticized the government's approach, describing it as "propaganda running out of falsehoods." He expressed anger over the minors' treatment, who were detained for over 96 days in poor conditions and then tried for treason. Tobiloba alleged that officials involved in the trial disregarded their morals, falsely labeling the children as adults and accusing them of acting when one fainted.
The police were also criticized for their involvement in the "show of shame," with the Force PRO making insensitive statements. Tobiloba rebuked government supporters for defending the "embarrassing display." MAVD noted that the government only took action after public and international outcry pressured them into damage control.
Tobiloba concluded that President Tinubu's government has exposed its "oppressive and dictatorial tendencies" to the world and demanded an apology to Nigerians, especially the affected children, as face-saving tactics cannot restore the president's reputation.
Meanwhile, Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake has praised President Tinubu's administration for its courage in taking difficult decisions to put the economy on a strong footing. However, this praise is overshadowed by the controversy surrounding the detention of minors and the government's handling of the situation.
