Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau, is in panic mode as the coronavirus pandemic has hit Maiduguri, Borno State.

Information available indicates that he has gone into self isolation as well as some of of his top Amirs.

It is pertinent to note that the Medicine Sans Frontier (MSF) otherwise known as Doctors Without Borders and the International Red Cross Society are the most vulnerable set of groups operating within thin troubled North-East region, exposed to this virus and as well have unrestricted access to the BOKOHARAM/ISWAP group.

The MSF have been working in Borno state since 2014, and in 2019, they treated 10,000 patients from malnutrition, and over 40,000 patients were admitted to their emergency unit.

The first casualty of the Coronavirus disease in Borno is a retired nurse with this group and has had contacts with other staff of the MSF and may have had same with some members of the BH/ISWAP

Reports has it that the Retired anaesthetic nurse worked with the MSF In pulka town of Gwoza Local Government Area, was a carrier of the disease and has had several contacts with health workers and staff working within and outside the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri.

It was also revealed that two Nurses brought him from pulka to UMTH.

After the demise of this patient, his family and relatives who have had primary contact with him, are believed to have received and had interactions with friends, staff of the UMTH, and other residents of pulka, who came to mourn, and consequently exposing more health workers and residents of the community to the virus.

Residents of Borno have been urged to observe personal hygiene, maintain social distancing and stay away from all social gatherings as the state governor has announced commencement of 2 wwwks lockdown of the state to curtail possible community transmission.

Meanwhile, it is still of great concern, how a possible outbreak will be managed if it gets into the camp of the insurgents and the communities where they hold sway.
