Lagos Shuts Churches, Hotels, and Businesses Over Environmental Violations
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed several establishments, including churches, hotels, bars, and other businesses, for failing to comply with environmental laws. The enforcement operation targeted areas such as Mushin, Amuwo Odofin, and Okota Isolo as part of ongoing efforts to curb noise pollution and other infractions across the state.
The agency announced the closures in a statement shared on its verified X handle on Thursday, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring a healthier and more sustainable environment. According to LASEPA, the establishments had been given prior notices but failed to address the violations.
The statement read:
"In a decisive move to combat noise pollution and other environmental violations, LASEPA sealed several establishments across the state. The enforcement underscores our dedication to fostering a harmonious environment for all Lagosians."
The affected establishments include Daily Bakery, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Gak Universal Allied Limited, Ideal Standard, Franjane Royal Suites, Golden Haven Resort & Suites, Festival Hotel Conference Centre & SPA, FS Service Centre, and Moulin Rouge Ventures at Olivia Mall.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance stance on violations that endanger public health or disrupt community harmony.
"Environmental protection is a shared responsibility," Ajayi stated. "We are committed to enforcing compliance with environmental laws to safeguard public health and improve quality of life. Noise pollution and improper siting of hazardous facilities pose significant risks that cannot be ignored."
Dr. Ajayi also encouraged Lagos residents to report environmental violations through LASEPA’s official channels, emphasizing the importance of collective action to ensure a sustainable and safe environment for all.
