Troops Nab Suspected Terrorists in Taraba, Foil Major Kidnapping Operations
Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended two suspected terrorists and recovered arms during security operations in Taraba State. The operations are part of intensified efforts to combat terrorism and enhance safety in the region.
Lt. Col. Abdul Musa, Brigade Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Friday.
According to the statement, the crackdown followed an intelligence-driven operation launched after the abduction of a district head in Jalingo Local Government Area on November 27. While the victim was released after a ransom payment, military efforts to track the culprits led to the arrests.
On December 18, troops apprehended Musa Suito, a vigilante operative in Jalingo, who reportedly exploited his position to supply information on potential targets to kidnappers. Recovered from Suito were a Dane gun and two cartridges.
In another operation on December 20, troops arrested a suspected Boko Haram member, Nura Yakubu, in Garba Chede, Bali Local Government Area. Investigations revealed that Yakubu posed as a food vendor while allegedly harboring Boko Haram operatives deployed to the state.
Yakubu and his associates were reportedly involved in the kidnapping of a businessman, Mr. Arinze, and the son of Alhaji Ibrahim in the Garbatau community of Bali Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army assured residents of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to provide credible and timely information to aid security efforts.
“The 6 Brigade remains resolute in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Taraba State and beyond,” the statement added.
