Netflix Debunks Exit Rumors, Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria's Economy
Popular streaming platform Netflix has refuted claims that it plans to exit Nigeria, dispelling apprehensions sparked by unverified rumors.
Responding through its public relations firm, Hill & Knowlton Strategies, Netflix categorically denied the reports. Edafe Onoriode, Group Account Director, reassured Nigerians of the company’s continued presence and investment in the country’s creative industry.
"We are not exiting Nigeria. We will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight our members," the Netflix spokesperson confirmed.
Speculation about Netflix's departure gained traction after statements attributed to renowned Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan went viral. Afolayan was quoted as saying Netflix had canceled several projects it had previously commissioned, further fueling the rumors.
Netflix, which entered the Nigerian market in 2016, has spent eight years building a robust presence in the country, producing and showcasing Nigerian stories to global audiences.
The streaming giant’s statement underscores its commitment to Nigeria’s burgeoning creative economy, reassuring stakeholders of its plans to remain and grow within the market.
