
Police Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Suspects, Recover Arms and N6.9m in Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against kidnapping and violent crimes, with successful operations in Akwa Ibom and Nasarawa States leading to the rescue of a victim, arrest of suspects, and recovery of arms, ammunition, and millions of naira in cash.
In Akwa Ibom, on August 16, 2025, operatives attached to Eket Division, supported by Ikot Udota Division and Afia Nsit youths, foiled a kidnap attempt at Factory Road, Afia Nsit, rescuing one Emerson. Two suspects, identified as Okon Edem Okon and Emmanuel Bassey, were arrested. A search of an uncompleted building nearby led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an assault rifle, 67 rounds of ammunition, a pump-action shotgun with six cartridges, six magazines, and a mobile phone.
In Nasarawa, on August 18, operatives of Garaku Division recovered a cache of weapons and N6.9 million following a lone motor crash involving an Opel Vectra at Angwan Mayo. The fleeing occupants abandoned the vehicle, which was later found to contain an AK-47 rifle, a Type 06 rifle, a G3 rifle, three magazines, 57 rounds of ammunition, and cash. One suspect, Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, was arrested in a follow-up operation with the military. He confessed to being part of a kidnap gang responsible for abducting a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the swift action of the operatives and community collaboration, stressing that the Force will sustain its crackdown on criminal gangs nationwide.
