Police Rescue Kidnap Victims, Arrest 8 Suspects, Recover Arms in Nationwide Operations
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in the ongoing fight against kidnapping, cultism, gunrunning, and violent crimes, following a series of intelligence-led operations across Delta, Katsina, Adamawa, and Edo States.
In Edo State, operatives rescued two kidnapped victims, Godday Irieude and Wisdom Emeka, who were abducted from their farm in Ewatto on June 26, 2025, around 1:00 a.m. Acting on credible intelligence, police officers, in collaboration with local vigilantes, traced the kidnappers to their hideout and engaged them in a gun duel. The criminals fled with gunshot injuries, while the victims were rescued unharmed.
Similarly, in Delta State, police operatives stormed a residence in Mosogar area occupied by suspected cultists, leading to the arrest of Koko Josh (29) and Asomugha Clinton (27). A search of the premises uncovered a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition, two locally-made guns, eight live cartridges, multiple mobile phones, a laptop, and fetish items. Further investigation led to the arrest of two more suspects, Anthony Kelvin (26) and Gift Amotsuka (25), identified as members of the Aiye Confraternity.
In a separate operation in Okpanam, Delta State, operatives arrested Ekene Chroma (36) and Okafor Jonathan (18) with two English-made single-barrel guns and 110 live cartridges. Preliminary findings revealed their involvement in illegal arms dealing, supplying weapons to criminal groups.
In Katsina State, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) arrested Yunusa Ishaku (40) in Funtua, recovering two stolen vehicles — a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Camry. The suspect confessed to being part of a car theft syndicate operating across Abuja, Jos, and other cities, with stolen vehicles transported to Niger Republic for resale. He also disclosed the locations of additional stolen vehicles in Zamfara and Bauchi States, with efforts underway to apprehend his accomplices.
Meanwhile, in Adamawa State, FID-IRT operatives arrested 52-year-old Alhaji Iya Bima of Kem Shithem LGA, in possession of an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. His interrogation led to the recovery of another AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and an additional 50 rounds of ammunition.
All suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force's commitment to intelligence-driven policing and dismantling criminal networks nationwide. The Police urged the public to remain vigilant, support security efforts, and report suspicious activities through official channels.
