Three NDLEA Officers Shot in Ambush During Abuja Drug Operation

Three operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have been hospitalized after sustaining gunshot wounds during a raid in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday night.

The operatives were attacked by unknown gunmen shortly after conducting a successful operation at an uncompleted building in the NNPC area of Jahi. Acting on credible intelligence and surveillance, the NDLEA team had raided the location and recovered a significant quantity of illicit drugs and items, including 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk—a potent strain of cannabis—and five Android mobile phones.

As the officers exited the scene, they were ambushed and fired upon by armed assailants. Three officers were hit, sustaining injuries to the rib, back, and leg. The wounded personnel were initially stabilized at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for further treatment.

Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), expressed gratitude to the medical staff at both facilities for their swift response and care. While on an official visit to Kano, the NDLEA boss contacted the injured officers via telephone to wish them a speedy recovery and commended their bravery in the line of duty.

Brig. Gen. Marwa assured that the NDLEA, in collaboration with other security agencies, will deploy every available resource to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
