Troops Arrest Dismissed Police Inspector, Uncover Suspected Interstate Arms Trafficking Network in Plateau

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested a suspected arms trafficker believed to be linked to an interstate illegal weapons network during a coordinated intelligence-driven operation in Plateau State.

The operation, carried out by troops of Sector 6 in conjunction with Headquarters Operation ENDURING PEACE on Sunday, June 14, 2026, followed actionable intelligence regarding the movement of illicit arms across state boundaries.

According to military authorities, the suspect was intercepted at a military checkpoint in Makera, Riyom Local Government Area, while travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South towards the Makera axis.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally made pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray and a jackknife. Troops also recovered two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff identification tag, photographs showing the suspect in police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card and N73,300 in cash.

Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, a dismissed officer formerly attached to Police Base 7 in Abuja.

Security sources disclosed that further intelligence has linked the suspect to an interstate arms trafficking syndicate allegedly involved in supplying weapons to criminal groups engaged in banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other violent crimes.

The suspect is currently in military custody, where investigators are conducting further interrogation aimed at identifying his associates, financiers and supply channels.

Military authorities described the arrest as a major setback to illegal arms trafficking networks and said it highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations targeting the proliferation of illicit weapons.

The Nigerian Army, working alongside other security agencies, reaffirmed its commitment to combating threats to national security and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace across the country.
