Troops Dislodge Bandits’ Hideouts, Recover Ammunition and Motorcycle in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified their ongoing Operation Lafiya Nakowa with successful clearance operations across several identified bandits’ hideouts in Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State.

The latest operation, conducted on 5 October 2025, followed credible intelligence reports on the activities of armed bandits around Tarhembe, Tornyi, TY Farm, and Kando general areas in Tati, Takum LGA, as well as information on the destruction of farmlands in Ussa LGA. Acting on this intelligence, the troops launched simultaneous clearance missions in the affected areas.

During the offensive, Team A advanced into Tarhembe and Tornyi, where they encountered armed bandits. The troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to flee into nearby forests. After the confrontation, the following items were recovered during the exploitation phase:

4 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

1 AK-47 magazine

1 motorcycle

Meanwhile, Team B conducted operations within Lissam in Ussa LGA, moving through Kutukok, Konkan, Fank Utaih, Kijwu, Kutukwo, Kwesati, and Alaha. Though no contact was made with the bandits, several abandoned camps were destroyed to deny them freedom of action in the region.

The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their gallantry and sustained effort in dismantling criminal hideouts. He emphasized that the clearance operations have disrupted the activities of armed groups, strengthened security in affected communities, and reassured residents of the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

General Uwa also called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid the success of ongoing counter-banditry operations across Taraba State.
