Troops Foil Terrorist Attack in Niger State, Neutralize Dozens, Recover Weapons and Equipment
Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have successfully thwarted a major terrorist incursion in Niger State, neutralizing several insurgents and recovering arms, communication devices, and motorcycles.
According to military sources, the terrorists were advancing from the Baban Doka axis of Maru Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State toward Ragada and Warari communities in Rijau LGA, Niger State, when they were intercepted on Monday, July 22, 2025.
Joint forces from the Mariga and Zuru axes swiftly responded and launched a coordinated assault near Inana Village in Rijau. A fierce firefight ensued, with support from the Air Component of OPFY, which provided critical surveillance and precision airstrikes to aid the ground troops.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of dozens of terrorists and the recovery of multiple items including two AK-47 rifles, a magazine loaded with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, communication gadgets, and 18 motorcycles believed to have been intended for rapid movement and cattle rustling.
Unfortunately, one gallant soldier was fatally wounded during the operation.
The success of this mission prevented what could have been a large-scale assault on local communities and underscored the military’s sustained efforts to secure the North West and parts of the North Central region.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to defeating all terrorist and criminal elements threatening peace in the region and called on citizens to continue supporting the military with timely and credible intelligence.
