32-YEAR OLD NIGERIAN MAN ARRESTED FOR DUPING PEOPLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA IN INDIA

A 32-year old Nigerian man identified as Okeleve Frankline Chibundom has been arrested for duping people on LinkedIn and Facebook.


This comes barely 48 hours after the Indian authorities arraigned a 41-year old Nigerian man for possession of hard drugs.


The accused allegedly duped a man of Rs 44.25 lakh.


He was said to have posed as an executive of a Tokyo-based pharmaceutical company selling herbal seeds.


According to the Indian Police, Frankline says with his live-in partner in South Delhi's mehrauli area.


Frankline's fraudulence got the attention of the police after a resident of Southeast Delhi Sarita Vihar made a complaint against the accused.


The victim narrated that a certain Takeshi Mochida, an executive of a Tokyo-based pharmaceutical company, contacted him through LinkedIn regarding the supply of 10, 000 packets of a herbal seed for medical purposes.


He then made payments of Rs 44,25,000 to Takeshi Mochida (Frankline) in different bank accounts but the seeds were never delivered to him.

On interrogation, Frankline confessed that he used to send bulk emails to people through LinkedIn and Facebook, promising them good opportunities in the business of herbal and rare seeds, and he proceeded to blocking them after the job was done.


He revealed his live-in partner used fake names and spoke to the targets in Hindi to cajole them into buying the seeds.


The Indian Police said they have retrieved three mobile phones, five ATM cards, one laptop, and one hard disk used in perpetrating the crime.
